Let's Rock 'n' Rose

Here is an interview with two sisters that have their very own website called Rock n Rose which has various handmade jewelery made by the girls. So Check out their website by clicking on the Let's Rock n Rose.

Two sisters named Jessica and Emily from Stockton-on-Tees have planted their very own jewellery site Rock ‘n Rose featuring elegant vintage-esque, colourful kitsch pieces.
Jewellery is one of the oldest forms of body adornment. The first pieces of jewellery were made from natural sources such as bones, shells, wood, and carved stone. During the early periods of the 13th century, it was used for wealth, storage, and pinning clothes together. The modern jewellery movement began in the late 1940s at the end of World War II. Jewellery designer Georg Jensen advanced the concept of wearable art while Robert Lee Morris is an acknowledged leader of the art and jewellery movement, who drew much of his inspiration from nature. The advent of new material such as plastics, Precious Metal Clay and colouring techniques has led to increase variety of styles used for decoration.

I interviewed 19 year-old Jessica who has “passion for fashion” and uses this site to unleash her creative side. She is currently studying Town Planning at Newcastle University full time. They can be found on social sites such as MySpace and Facebook which has helped when promoting their business because are able to target women of a certain age with specific interests.

According to MySpace, Rock ‘n Rose was initially called Pennyweight Emporium. “We decided to change our name last September, and began selling customised clothing, which proved to be difficult to source after we’d sold our original batch.”
The lack of individual jewellery led the two sisters to create an online site selling jewellery that is affordable yet unique. “We love anything associated with the 50’s burlesque, pin-up models, Paris, the colourful 80’s the Victorian era (cameos, pin broaches). We love to bring back styles from the past” says Jessica.
Their most popular collections include the “Love Me, Cos I Do” alphabet initial necklaces available in a variety eye-catching colours with crimson Lucite heart. Scrabble Me Senseless tile necklace honours the 1955 version of the Scrabble game making it another Rock ‘n Rose winner.

Art jewellery is created with a variety of materials not just precious metals and gems and is a relatively small niche where jewellery is mostly bought by collectors and museums. In the 1960s and 1970s the German Government and the commercial jewellery industry decided to foster and support modern jewellery designers. They focused in particular on combined contemporary design and jewellery making. In modern times, art jewellery is made from modern synthetic materials such as nylon and acrylic which creates a dramatic effect. Now art jewellery is no longer a niche market and various designs are sold in regular jewellery stores.
Each piece of jewellery sold on Rock ‘n Rose is handmade with a variety of materials such as plastic which is laid out and put together to make to be various designs.
“Designing our pieces can take from 10 minutes to a few hours depending on how complex the design is, and on whether my perfectionist qualities will let me leave it alone. Re-producing them only takes a few minutes, although we do take great care over each piece!”

Even actor Mischa Barton from the American teen drama The O.C was photographed in a popular magazine wearing one of their necklaces Love is...Fighting necklace.
In the near future, they would like to take Rock n Rose to another level. “Ultimately, we’d love to own our own shop. A small Boutique in Camden, London would be our ultimate dream! We’d love to expand Rock ‘n Rose into other fields. We’re contemplating sunglasses, dresses, tote bags and even cute Japanese stationary. Who knows what the future may bring!” Says Jessica
Rock n Rose is rosy with their quirky styles that has blossomed the net.
